Early and Late Time Acoustic Measures for Underwater Seismic Airgun Signals In Long-Term Acoustic Data Sets

چکیده
This work presents a new toolkit for describing the acoustic properties of the ocean environment before, during and after a sound event caused by an underwater seismic airgun. The toolkit uses existing sound measures, but uniquely applies these to capture the early time period (actual pulse) and late time period (reverberation and multiple arrivals). In total, 183 features are produced for each airgun sound. This toolkit was utilized on data retrieved from a field deployment encompassing five marine autonomous recording units (MARU’s) during a 46-day seismic airgun survey in Baffin Bay, Greenland. Using this toolkit, a total of 147 million data points were identified from the Greenland deployment recordings. The feasibility of extracting a large number of features was then evaluated using two separate methods: a serial computer and a high performance system. Results indicate that data extraction performance took an estimated 216 hours for the serial system, and 18 hours for the high performance computer. This paper provides an analytical description of the new toolkit along with details for using it to identify relevant data. Seismic Airgun, Feature Extraction, Passive Acoustic Monitoring.

Implementation of an adaptive burst DQPSK receiver over shallow water acoustic channel
In an environment such as underwater channel where placing test equipments are difficult to handle, it is much practical to have hardware simulators to examine suitably designed transceivers (transmitter/receiver). The simulators of this kind will then allow researchers to observe their intentions and carry out repetitive tests to find suitable digital coding/decoding algorithms. In this p...
متن کاملQuantifying seismic survey reverberation off the Alaskan North Slope.
Shallow-water airgun survey activities off the North Slope of Alaska generate impulsive sounds that are the focus of much regulatory attention. Reverberation from repetitive airgun shots, however, can also increase background noise levels, which can decrease the detection range of nearby passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) systems. Typical acoustic metrics for impulsive signals provide no quantit...

Underwater acoustics is widely used in many applications, such as oceanography, marine biology, hydrography, fishery, etc. Different models are introduced to simulate the underwater acoustic propagation in the oceans and the seas. In this study, the Ray Theory model is used to simulate the acoustic wave propagation in a shallow-freshwater river (Gono River) located in western part of Japan. The...

The mathematical modeling of the acoustic wave propagation in seawater is the basis for realizing goals such as, underwater communication, seabed mapping, advanced fishing, oil and gas exploration, marine meteorology, positioning and explore the unknown targets within the water. However, due to the existence of various physical phenomena in the water environment and the various conditions gover...
متن کاملReal-time acoustic tomography system and the experience of Caspian current sea monitoring
The Acoustic Tomography (AT) systems are used to monitor long-term and continuous flow in rivers, seas and oceans. One of the disadvantages of existing systems in Iran is the inability of real-time/automated measurements. In this study, by adding a raspberry Pi computer to the system and performing the required programming, it was possible to do online monitoring. The data are transferred to th...
